Digital Foundry | PlayStation Classic teardown: what's inside Sony's new micro-console?
How the PS1 was rebuilt 24 years on.
What hardware is inside the PlayStation Classic and what it makes it tick? It's something we've been fascinated about since the project was announced. Initially, we wondered whether Sony might have returned to its PlayStation Vita SoC - a proven performer for original PlayStation emulation. However, the platform holder has opted for an ARM SoC set-up - and one that's a good chunk more powerful than the internals of the NES and Super NES mini consoles.

Feature | Why Homer would approve of Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Bright-eyed and wide-ruling.
Is there a word more sickeningly overused to describe video games than 'epic'? I honestly struggle to think of a worse offender - although perhaps 'immersive' could compete for this title? 'Epic' has permeated our collective consciousness to such an extent that it's even the name of a developer. As someone who regularly watches shows at E3, PAX, CES, and the rest, I am genuinely sick to death of the word 'epic'. I hereby beg for its removal from all future speeches by any person planning to set foot on a stage to discuss a game for the rest of time. Seriously, stop saying epic.

Digital Foundry | PlayStation Classic mixes PAL and NTSC games - and the results disappoint
There are performance problems, too.
Something's up with the Sony PlayStation Classic - what should be a celebration of a truly iconic console is compromised by an uneven selection of games, sub-par emulation and the bizarre choice of using a mixture of both NTSC and PAL games in a machine with a locked 60Hz high definition output.

Bethesda's Fallout 76 refund policy causes confusion, as lawyers circle
Deathclaw and order.
It's no secret that Fallout 76 has had technical issues. The PC version, in particular, has experienced several bugs - including one which deleted 50GB worth of game data, and another (slightly more amusing) bug which made players immortal. Yet for some, the problems proved too much, and several players have now attempted to claim refunds via the Bethesda game launcher. But with players getting mixed results, Bethesda's refund policy is leaving customers perplexed. So much so, in fact, that the situation has now caught the attention of an American law firm.

Digital Foundry | Just Cause 4 has next-level physics - but does it run smoothly?
An early look at the PC version, with consoles to follow.
We're closing in on the launch of Avalanche's Just Cause 4 - a game that looks to push the series' signature open world and remarkable physics systems to a new level, which begs the question... what's the score with performance? Just Cause 3 is our go-to game for testing CPU limitations on consoles, while the PC version launched with severe loading time problems and obvious driver issues for Radeon cards, which took some time to resolve. Based on what we've seen of the sequel so far, we should be in for a smoother ride this time around.
