Our complete walkthrough for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Ballonlea is your next location, and finding the solution Opal's Gym Mission questions is your next objective, following on from Glimwood Tangle in your quest through Pokémon Sword and Shield's main story.

On each page of our walkthrough like this, we'll cover any and all of the obtainable Pokémon, item locations, trainers and their teams that you might come across here, as well as walking you through any key steps of the story, puzzles or challenges along the way.

Where applicable, note that our walkthrough pages will be down into separate sections referring to each of your visits to a given location, seeing as you often backtrack or revisit various places in your quest to become Galar League Champion. And of course if there are any, we'll clearly mark any spoilers, too!

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Ballonlea - Pokémon, items and trainers

Ballonlea is small but charming, with its glow-in-the-dark mushrooms and drifting Pokémon.

There are a handful of items to collect, including a couple of valuable hidden ones. There's also a couple of people to talk to, including that man Frank, who the little girl in Hammerlocke had asked you to deliver a letter to - he's in the first house on the left!

There's also a breeder in an old lady's house, who battles you and offers up an Eviolite as a reward; and there's a strange Artist who wants you to wear something fiery, offering a reward if you do!

Pokémon Sword and Shield: Ballonlea Gym Mission solution - all the correct answers to Opal's questions

The Ballonlea Gym mission is simple enough - you just need to answer a few quiz questions correctly (like the classic Blaine quiz, if you remember it!), but the questions themselves become a little awkward as the challenge goes on...

Anyway, inside Marnie will turn up and give you her League Card, and there's a girl in an Eevee costume who'll trade you her regular Yamask for your Galar one if you have one spare.

Ballonlea Gym Quiz answers and solutions:

Questions in this gym will come mid-battle, and if you answer correctly your Pokémon's stats will be raised - incorrectly and they'll be lowered!

How to beat Opal, Ballonlea's Fairy-type Gym Leader

Opal asks three more questions during the battle, and she uses Fairy-type Pokémon, but her typings are smart, s there's one quick fix for useful types here! The best options are Steel, Ground, and Poison. She Gigantamaxes her Alcremie, so wait to use your Dynamax until then, and come at it hard with Poison or Steel moves!
