Interview | Hale to the Commander
Jennifer Hale speaks about her two decades voice-acting, fame and garnering respect in games.
Jennifer Hale has appeared in 142 games in a career that stretches back to the 16-bit era, a time when voice acting in games was just a scratchy novelty. She's had a major role in games that have defined this generation (including one of its most spectacular trilogies), and is half of an unforgettable double-act in one of 2013's most thought-provoking games, BioShock Infinite.

How Hotline Miami plays on PS3 and Vita
More mind control madness with arguably better controls.
I have a confession to make: I loathe playing games on a PC. I know there are plenty who swear by it, but I'd take a gamepad or even Wii controller over a mouse and keyboard any day of the week. My index fingers and thumbs were made for gaming. My other six digits? Well, they'll do in a pinch, but generally don't like to be bothered to do more than keep a controller in my hand and help me carry groceries. So it was with a bit of sadness and resignation that I had to play Hotline Miami with a mouse and keyboard upon its initial launch on PC last autumn.

Jonathan Blow explains why his PS4 puzzle adventure doesn't need explaining.
There are a couple of refreshing things about Braid designer Jonathan Blow's presentation of his next game The Witness on Sony's stand at E3. The first is that it's happening at all. The second is that he's showing us the actual game. Such is the illusory nature of the great annual video game circus, where even virtual worlds aren't real.

Naughty Dog apologises to cartographer after he spots his copyrighted map in The Last of Us
"Companies like Naughty Dog are worried about software piracy, designers like me are worried about ethical and fair usage of our work."
Portland-based cartographer Cameron Booth was alerted to quite the surprise the other day when someone pointed out that his unofficial map of the Boston subway system was copy and pasted into Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic epic, The Last of Us. As it turns out "unofficial" and "public domain" aren't quite the same thing and Booth's map was copyrighted after all. Uh oh!

First-person sci-fi horror roguelike Routine debuts gameplay
In space, no one can hear you cream.
Last August I wrote about a spooky first-person sci-fi game called Routine. Developed by a scant four people, Routine will feature permadeath, randomised hazards and enemies, and a focus on avoiding combat. It sounded quite spiffy, but word on it went dark for the better part of a year and now developer Lunar Software has released four minutes of alpha gameplay and it looks quietly intense - like the Alien to Dead Space's Aliens.

Review | Deadpool review
Gib generously.
One of the problems in adapting The Punisher, Marvel's gun-toting vigilante, to the movies was that, once removed from the colourful spandex morality of the comic book page, the character lost his mojo. In a world populated by Spider-Man, Captain America and Mister Fantastic, a guy who just shot criminals to pieces couldn't help but stand out. Transfer him to the big screen, where scowling vengeful vigilantes are ten a penny, and all of sudden he's utterly generic.

Review | Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep review
Fighting fantasy.
Everything's different but nothing's changed: that's the reassuring message Borderlands 2 is sending with Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep. It's also, rather fittingly, a reminder that Gearbox's cyber-hick shooting party now resembles one of those special long-running TV shows, like Moonlighting or Community, that can contort itself into all sorts of weird shapes without really damaging the essence of what makes it work.

American McGee launches Kickstarter for OZombie
Help Dorothy, Lion, and the Tin Man conquer Scarecrow and his minions.
Last month American McGee was indecisive as to whether he wanted his next Kickstarter to continue down the adventures of his demented Alice series, or to explore his own twisted rendition of L. Frank Baum's Oz franchise. As it turns out, he's opted for the latter with his recently launched OZombie crowdfunding campaign.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf spoilercast
Chris Donlan and Tom Phillips on Nintendo's new marvel.
I don't think I'm the only one who's got a problem, but when that problem's staying up until the small hours writing love letters to a bespectacled monkey who I'm pretty sure just wants to be friends it's difficult to do anything about it. Animal Crossing: New Leaf's sucked us all in with a force the series has been unable to muster since the GameCube debut in the West (although I'll admit that Wild World came close), and it's a real rare delight.

Oli's already bought you his review, and he's joined by Ellie Gibson as they go through the story's twists and turns and deliver their thoughts on how effective Naughty Dog's been in delivering a more grounded, more human take on a world destroyed. Needless to say, there will be spoilers.
