Review | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
It ain't easy being green.
There's a worrying trend starting to develop in games aimed at the younger end of the market these day. Back in the day, the idea of even saving your progress in a game was an alien concept but today, ever since Lego Star Wars did it, developers seem to think its okay to churn out games in which you can't actually die. The only thing this can ever test is patience, which is no good thing. And with its oh-so-frequent checkpoints in case you fall off a building (which will happen a lot through no fault of your own) and unique 'press A to get up with full life after being killed in battle' system, Turtles is the latest such offender. Oddly, though, this is pretty much the least of the game's worries.

Review | Virtua Tennis 3
New balls please.
The sign of a really good sports game is one that you find hugely enjoyable even when you're not a massive fan of the sport itself. Take the Virtua Tennis games. Despite only having a passing interest in the rising fortunes of teenage wunderkind Andy Murray, and despite watching a sum total of, ooh, two matches a year, as a videogame it's probably in my all-time top five. Few sports games have ever been so easy to pick up and play, yet had so much hidden depth. It sounds like the sort of tired hyperbole that you'd read in an excitable press release, but it's true.

Interview | Crackdown Community Q&A
Phil Wilson talks directly to our readers. Dunno why we bother.
Crackdown was released by Realtime Worlds in February to critical acclaim and excellent sales. The game scored a well-earned 9/10 on Eurogamer with Tom Bramwell informing us that it was his '...favourite Xbox 360 game of recent times' [still is - Tom Bramwell, for it is he]. The game has also generated one of the most popular threads on the Eurogamer forum, with members discussing their tactics and sharing the fun things they find to do in the world of Crackdown on a daily basis. With this in mind, and some Irish soda bread and a crate of Guinness in the post, producer Phil Wilson thus agreed to answer some of the community's questions. Given that the Guinness had been handed over before he answered any questions, we can't guarantee the coherency of his answers. Then again, we can't guarantee the coherency of our questions.

Review | Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
What, so the first two were just arguments?
Watching Sin City last year, I spent the first twenty minutes or so picking it apart in my head, worrying about how hollow it all felt, how nothingy a piece of film-making it was. And then a man torpedoed himself feet-first through the windshield of a moving car, and I had a moment of total clarity. I'm not supposed to take this remotely seriously, and I really, really shouldn't be thinking about it. This is purely hedonism. So, I just decided to go with it, and from thereon in a certain part of my mind was perfectly happy. The same happened with C&C3; the first few levels didn't make me feel anything. It was just there, the campy cut-scenes came and went, I was told exactly what to kill and where, and I kept feeling somewhat unsatisfied. I have done all this so very many times before, and a reasonably pretty 3D engine does nothing to change that.
