Sony boss attacks 'lazy' press and defends PS3 price
"This is the cost of living."
The PlayStation 3's relatively high price in the UK is down to "the cost of living" as much as anything, according to Sony UK managing director Ray Maguire, who also suggested that negative coverage of the console had been "lazy". "The old adage of never let the truth get in the way of a good story is probably more prevalent than it has been before," he told our sister site GamesIndustry.biz.

Feature | What's New? (23rd March, 2007)
The latest PAL releases, where 'late' is the operative word.
Good morning, Internet. Today is an important day. No, I'm not resigning. (Although obviously I've thought about it. The Internet is a harsh mistress. And it's not like she does you a "special favour" on your birthday or anything like that.) Today is the first day that the term "next generation" cannot realistically be used to describe a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii. And so, in last-minute fashion, we need to start thinking about how to replace it.

Review | EA Replay
Mutant League Football's worth a punt.
By far the worst games among EA's inevitable collection of back catalogue hits are Syndicate and Wing Commander. Which is odd, because both games are also among the most fondly remembered of the selection. But that's because they were fondly remembered on the PC. The versions included here are the console versions, which are hampered by reduced functionality, inferior visuals and rubbish controls.

Review | Formula One Championship Edition
Gruelling.
Once upon a time, Sony's Phil Harrison demonstrated that games offer better value for money than movies by dividing the length it took to play various games by the amount of money it cost to buy them. So he must be hugely pleased with Formula One Championship Edition because the latest title from the Sony Liverpool production line of officially licensed F1 games goes on forever. Fire up the game's career mode and it'll likely be a good half hour of practising, warming up and setting up the car before you get to the starting grid of your first Grand Prix.

Feature | PlayStation 3 launch titles
Reviews and info, all in one place.
PlayStation 3, eh? Seems a bit excessive. Oh well, at least it's got quite a few games out on day one. Not unlike the PSP launch in 2005, Sony's decision to hold off for a bit gave it a chance to assemble a bigger line-up. The result is a great deal of breadth, and while we haven't got kind words for all the big games, we have got words, and some of them are kind. Read on for a mixture.

Dates and reviews of all the PSN games.

Review | Lemmings
Cheap, but lacking.
The Lemmings are - quite literally - evergreen. Over 16 years have passed since I set foot in London's Kensington Royal Garden Hotel to attend a low-key Psygnosis press junket where Dave Jones' genius-level games concept was first unveiled. No key note speeches, no long-winded demonstrations, no hard sell. Psygnosis and DMA Design knew they had a hit on their hands and just let us play the game and appreciate the extraordinary concept. Taking a look at this PlayStation 3 rendition of the classic, it's astonishing to see just how little has changed in the core gameplay compared to the 1991 Commodore Amiga original.

Tekken it home.
It's not often that you come across a game that redefines the sector it operates in, but to put it quite frankly, Tekken: Dark Resurrection is absolutely staggering. With its very first PlayStation 3 E-Distribution Initiative title, Namco has effectively annihilated just about every preconception you might have about budget downloadable games.
