    Review | Naruto: Ultimate Ninja

    Genuinely quite good, believe it.

If there's one thing we've learned from our time served telling the world which games are worth playing, it's that a game can never be written off based on its subject matter. Def Jam: Fight For New York makes for a perfect example - the idea of a couple of rappers slogging the hell out of each other might not do it for you but if you're big on your wrestling games, it's pretty much a must-have. Similarly, even games based on unfamiliar IPs can tickle you in a special way despite your lack of knowledge, awareness or interest. You may not know what a Naruto is, let alone what to do with one, but trust us when we tell you that regardless, Ultimate Ninja is a deeply enjoyable cartoon fighter. And if you're into the series anyway, the only thing you could really ask for is a bigger roster. But we'll come to that a little later on.

Review | The Sims Life Stories

    Life is life (nanananana).

Being super-experienced rock-hard gamers with enormous thumb muscles it can be difficult to comprehend the notion that some people find The Sims daunting. After all, its reputation in hardened gaming circles is generally one of silly fluff, a frivolous distraction, a - heck, let's not beat about the bush - a girl's game.

    Review | Test Drive Unlimited

    Country roads, take me home.

Back in the olden days, when 8 bits ruled the Earth, the only game that my younger sister showed even the faintest glimmer of interest in was Durell's Turbo Esprit on the Spectrum. The reason for this affectation had less to do with her passion for tracking down drug dealers in bright purple cars, and everything to do with the fact that she decided to rename the game Driving My Daughter To School. Completely ignoring the actual point of the game, she was quite happy to pootle around the wireframe city streets pretending to carry out common domestic chores.

    Feature | What's New? (23rd Feb, 2007)

PAL game releases and thank god he's leaving.

So, it turns out that lacing your column with reminders that you're going on holiday doesn't get you out of having to write one. This is a shame, because I had hoped to spend my last afternoon reading about New Zealand so I could look clever when I get off the plane. "Hello there, native! You're looking mighty handsome with your 24,797 US dollars per capita GDP. Still exporting around 28% of your agricultural output, and enjoying a diverse heritage influenced predominantly by British, Maori and Polynesian cultures? Are you?"

    The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Remind yourself of Bethesda's brilliant masterpiece.

What is there to say about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion? What can possibly be left to say about a game that came out about a year ago, wowing the critics (with average review scores of over 90% and a rare 10 out of 10 from Eurogamer), winning about a gazillion game of the year awards, and selling over 3 million copies? That's the problem facing anybody writing a preview of the forthcoming PlayStation 3 conversion of Bethesda's RPG masterpiece, which is due to be released in March to accompany the launch of the console (in advance of a PSP title set in the Elder Scrolls universe which is set to appear later this year, hopefully).

Review | Hotel Dusk: Room 215

Please go easy on the minibar.

The first thing people say when they see pointy clicky adventure Hotel Dusk is, 'That looks like the video by AHA from the 80s!' So it's the first thing I've said too, so it can be mentioned, and now forgotten. Far more interesting is examining how Hotel Dusk's animated pencil sketches look without coincidental comparison, but it does at least provide a vivid reference point for those who haven't seen it running.

United we stand, united we crash into a wall.

Here are the two greatest things about Trackmania: The instant restart, and bouncing on water. The two encapsulate everything you need to know about the lunatic action racing, with its crack-like "one more go" addiction, and the nonsensically playful fun of when you when and you and... CRASH.
