    Review | GT Pro Series

No, you're right, it could get worse.

How long is this going to go on? How often are we going to have to approach the first example of a tried-and-tested genre to arrive on the Wii - in this instance, the Gran Turismo-inspired, licence-toting driving game - with a feeling somewhere between curiosity and trepidation, wondering if it will work, if it can work? Frankly, in most cases it's doing the console no favours, and exposing some games - GT Pro Series very much being one of them - to more scrutiny than they can bear.

    Review | Happy Feet

    Penguins on the Dancing Stage.

Yes, it's Christmas again and time for that yearly staple: CGI movies featuring moral messages, cuddly, talking animals and - of course - spin off games. 2006 is no different and, in order to fully cash in on the immediate success of the movie, Happy Feet is being released on a half dozen formats to best get the kiddies and girlfriends vote. No surprise there, and no surprise that the game's not bad, but not great, either.

Review | Trauma Centre: Second Opinion

    On the cutting edge.

It's clear from the response to Eurogamer's first Wii reviews that the control system hasn't won you all over. For every pleasantly surprised launch-lover, marvelling at the precision and subtlety in Wii Sports bowling or tennis, there are several more cautious observers, standing back with one eyebrow raised at the mini-game-heavy Raving Rabbids, and Twilight Princess - the latter, despite its brilliance, often showing itself up as a GameCube port. There are enjoyable games here, certainly, but none of them does much to fill us with cheery confidence about the console's future; none of them really shows off the breadth and sophistication of control that the Wii is capable of.

    Fils-Aime promises Wii games

    In a reasonable timeframe.

If big first party Wii titles like Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy take longer to arrive than expected, Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime could well be left looking a bit silly, after a transcript of an October interview emerged where he promised their swift release in 2007.

    Novadrome on Live Arcade

    From Carmageddon people.

Normally what I like to do on Wednesday mornings is load up Xbox Live Arcade and mess about with the new game under the pretext of doing this news item. Unfortunately, I've just moved house and have no wired Internet, so all I can do is repeat what's been said to me about it. So. Novadrome, today's Xbox Live Arcade release, is a game about guiding a man called Novad around an imperial, 2000 year-old central European civilisation and trying to discover the origin of hats.

    Review | Elebits

    [I'm still appalled - Ellie]

At E3 this year I got to try out the demo of Elebits. At the end, I turned around to hand the controller to the next person in line (who happened to be GoldenEye designer Martin Hollis, but that's neither here nor there), who asked me what I thought of it. "It's alright," I said, "but the final version better have more to it than just zapping tiny creatures and flinging objects about."

Review | Monster 4x4: World Circuit

What's that coming over the hill?

Ubisoft really does have the most massive crush on the Wii. Nintendo's demure little debutante certainly has its suitors - EA, Activision and SEGA, to name some names - but they've mostly chosen to play it cool, sidling up to the virginal young console and offering it some idle chit-chat, dropping a franchise name or two. Not so the lovestruck Gallic publisher. Unreserved as ever, Ubisoft is capering and fawning around the Wii like an obsequious courtier, opening doors, pulling out chairs, producing bouquets of flowers from behind its back, and generally throwing its oversized seven-game greatcoat down in the muddy puddle of launch week.
