Interview | X05: J Allard on launching the 360
On Sony's plans, next generation gaming, Live, and more...
In part one of our extensive interview with Microsoft's J Allard, the mood was very much one of an aggressively defensive showing from the effervescent Xbox front man. Justifiably proud of the company's decision to launch the Xbox 360 nigh-on simultaneously worldwide, Allard was nevertheless dogged in his refusal to reveal whether certain games would make it into the launch line-up.

All DS games should be this good by law.
Japanese translations walk a fine line. It's one of those mysteries you don't ever want to solve, like how come all the jokes in Asterix are based on English puns, if the comics were written in French? Anyone who played the truly wondrous Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on the GBA will understand. Fawful, the character who spoke in badly translated Japanese ("I HAVE FURY!") - how did that joke possibly work in the original Japanese version? And if it didn't, then...

Feature | What's New? (7th October 2005)
Weekly release roundup.
To kick off with an unresearched soundbite, possession is nine tenths of all gaming, and at a glance this week's fraction is practically top-heavy - thanks to Geist (Cube), Black & White 2 (PC) and Nintendogs (DS). Now, as Ghostbusters informs us, there are innate advantages and disadvantages to possession. On the one hand, Sigourney Weaver may attempt to have sex with you. On the other hand, Sigourney Weaver may attempt to have sex with you. But that's only this week at-a-glance. If you dump Geist for a second, and stick with B&W2 and Nintendogs, a better theme is reliance. Both games present you with the chance to shape a creature in Pavlovian fashion - particularly apt in Nintendogs case for obvious reasons - and present it with varying degrees of success.

"We want to do the right thing for gamers."
Never before has a console launched around the world nigh-on simultaneously. In fact, here in Europe we're used to three, six, and even nine month delays. But not with the Xbox 360. Review | Dynasty Warriors 5
Watch the Chinese population die-nastily. Again.
As the 'Dynasty Warriors' series has marched inexorably on, the raw numbers quotable for its various metrics (missions, characters, objects, etc.) have grown steadily with each release too. With this latest release, you will be forgiven for losing count or exaggerating the expanses. With this game it's hard to avoid that. Dynasty Warriors 5 is the, oooh, let's say the 39th 'Warrior' game in total that KOEI has committed to consoles - if you include the Samurai/Misc. Warriors games that fill the gaps between dynasties. There are 48 playable characters in this game, six entirely new, most borrowed from earlier incarnations.

Review | Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006
Links to the past.
You know, when I sat down to write this review the first time, I started off writing about George Lucas. I was going to spin some silly yarn about how he couldn't possibly have foreseen the damage he was going to do by having Greedo shoot first. About how we should have been thankful, because at least when he sat down in the editing suite, he was doing it for a good reason - yes, he wanted slightly more TIE Fighters in the background and all that, but he was doing it because he wanted Star Wars to appeal to a new generation, and he wasn't pretending it was a whole new film or anything. I mean, who would, right?
