Over the past few days, several PlayStation users have been reporting a malicious console-crashing attack sent via console message. Players claimed a specific character combination had "bricked" their consoles, forced them to factory reset their PlayStations, and that "even deleting the message from the mobile app" didn't protect them. The only known way for players to protect themselves was by setting their messages to private.

The Switch's first Pokémon is for a new generation - but what's it got for the old?
Digging deep into the first two hours of Let's Go.
If only Kanto Airways had a loyalty scheme. I've been to Pokémon's founding region so many times, now. Red, Blue, and Yellow; back again, by wonderful surprise, in Gold, Silver, and Crystal; once more in the FireRed and LeafGreen remakes and of course all across the land in the TV series, if that counts. And then that's not to mention the perpetually-active Kanto events of Pokémon Go, if I ever missed it for just a second.

Review | Starlink: Battle for Atlas review - zippy combat meets uninspired busywork
Fox and friends.
My favourite moment in Starlink: Battle for Atlas occured when, muddled and in the heat of a fight, I attached a weapon the wrong way around. Ubisoft's latest is a very late entry into the toys-to-life marketplace: when you play it, your controller houses a little mount upon which you slot a pilot, a star-fighter, and various weapons that then appear in the game.

Digital Foundry | Metal Gear Solid HD back-compat for Xbox One is the best way to play
But why isn't it X-enhanced?
If there's one game franchise crying out for the full current-gen remastering treatment, it's Metal Gear Solid. The classic MGS titles have remained untouched since 2011's excellent Metal Gear Solid HD collection, with no sign of any Xbox One or PlayStation 4 re-releases - despite the emergence of MGS cutscenes apparently running on the Fox Engine on a Japan-only pachinko machine, of all places. However, there is some good news: the 2011 remaster is now backwards compatible on Xbox One, and as things stand, this is easily the best way to play these brilliant games on modern hardware.

Recommended | The World Ends With You: Final Remix review - quirky classic gets a classy makeover
Tokyo story.
Back in 2008, video games could be more than a little bit weird. Nintendo's DS had hit its stride, and before the iOS goldrush truly began, there was a brief window where, it seemed, anything went. It was a wildlands full of outlandish, often brilliant games - none more so, I think, than Square Enix's The World Ends With You.

Inside McLaren's Shadow Project.
Every year, some of the best drivers in the world - champions from F1, the WEC, NASCAR and the WRC amongst other disciplines - get together to work towards the answer of that perennial motorsport fan's pint-fuelled topic: what if you could put every driver in identical machinery?
